BLACK IS THE NEW CLEAN

Even though products for facial cleaning are mostly connected to the color white, black beauty products are gaining popularity. Hence, I want to present to you three of these products.

BOSCIA made in Korea – charcoal pore-minimizing hydrogel mask

‘Preservative-free. Gluten-free. Ethanol alcohol-free. Reduces the appearance of pores and purifies skin by gently and thoroughly absorbing impurities. Blended with bamboo charcoal to expel toxins, remove blackheads and minimise pores for a soft, refined and renewed complexion.’ (Boscia packaging, 2016).

How does it work?

You take out the mask – there are two parts to it. One for the upper part of your face and the other for the lower. Put it on your cleansed face and keep it there for 20 minutes. After that, take it down and massage the rest of the mask into your face.

What do I think?

It’s a bit slippery at first and the color black does not add to it’s beauty, but it feels quite comfy on the face. It may take a bit longer to position it right but keeps in place very well. I didn’t make out any specific smell, seemed rather neutral to me. Afterwards my skin was soft, but since I only had one mask to use, I can’t tell you about long-term effects.

CURAPROX made in Switzerland – whitening toothpaste for adults & children aged 12 years and older

Activated charcoal absorbs substances that cause discolouration while hydroxylapatite hardens the enamel and makes the teeth pearly white. Enzymes boost the anti-plague action of the saliva. Together with the fluorides, this doubles the protection against tooth decay.‘ (Curaprox packaging, 2016)

How does it work?

The strongly absorptive effect of activated carbon takes care of particles on your teeth and in your mouth. It binds it and thus, it will be flushed out when you brush your teeth. Hydroxylapatit has a somehow similar structure to your tooth enamel and places itself protectively around your teeth even reducing tooth decay. The toothpaste brightens your teeth when used regularly. The toothpaste contains fluoride. If you are allergic to fluoride, you might need to take that into account. At least that was written on the kohle-zahnpasta website.

What do I think?

I started using it a week ago. The first moments, when seeing your teeth turning black due to the toothpaste, are kind of scary, but after the second try, it feels natural. I see some small changes occurring and will keep on using it, as I like the taste and am curious to see my teeth being bleached.

KONGY made in South Korea – facial sponge with bamboo charcoal

100% natural sponge – made with vegetable fibre, deep cleanses, gently exfoliates, naturally moisturises, 100% natural, biodegradable‘ (Kongy packaging, 2016).

How does it work?

It says: ‘Never use the sponge when its dry. First put it into warm water and rinse it. After that kongy can be used with or without facial soap by circular motion. After usage it is important to hang it up, so it can dry. The product should not be used longer than 2-3 months and then thrown onto your compost when the time comes.’

What do I think?

I use the sponge for oily and acne prone skin (there are other kongys that may fit your skin conditions better). It’s very soft on my face and I enjoy the effect afterwards. My face feels clean yet a bit dry. It’s additive free which is a plus! Only negative points are the smell, which can turn a bit weird sometimes, and the need to hang it somewhere. I am now positioning it on my faucet (which works quite well).

A big thank you goes to Biotiful, who send me the product for testing.

I hope you liked the details about each product and decide to add one or the other to your facial routine. I will keep on using the sponge and the toothpaste. The black color takes some time to getting used to, especially when brushing your teeth, but I enjoy challenges.

I posted about charcoal skincare products recently as well (see link), it´s such a great concept! I love my face sponge and enjoyed the Boscia charcoal range my friend got for me when we traveled for a week. I loved the skin cleaning gel!

So far I didn´t find a charcoal toothpaste in Vienna. Where did you get that one from?

Oh nice, love the Detox Delight Juices, but never tried the black ones. You can get the toothpaste at kussmund.wien.
