On the 27th of August the British Pop Up Store at Millennium City in Vienna closed it’s doors – forever? We don’t know yet. I discovered some new British designers and had the chance to taste British jams and sweets. This catapulted me back to my Masters Studies in the UK some years back. I still remember the rain, the short skirts and weird carpeted flooring in clubs and the crazy rush hours at Piccadilly Circus (circus is the right name in this case).
Of dreams, milliner qualities and favourite books. Christina Lichy, the girl behind Hattitude, can be found at Schnittbogen, was born in Denmark and loves colours. She moved to Vienna in 2011 and lives here since. She creates hats, that are supposed to endow the wearer with self-confidence.
Saint Valentine’s day is a big first world celebration & very commercial at that. For some it may even mean make up or break up?! But where does it come from?
A popular biographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed ‘Your Valentine‘ as a farewell…In Europe, Saint Valentine’s Keys are given to lovers ‘as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart’…(wikipedia.org, 2016).
For me that day has a different meaning but I won’t share it here, because it is way too sad considering that the 14th of February is the day of the loved ones. Then again, I feel that this day is perfect, because it is the key day for showing your love to others even if they are not here anymore! And so, it is a day you will always remember.
Saint Valentine’s cards, Saint Valentine’s keys or flowers & chocolates – what will it be in 2016? I love flowers. If I get flowers from my boyfriend, a beautiful colourful composition – then I am happy, and if he forgets – oh there will be other days for flowers, maybe more random days that make me even happier.
BUT I never said, that a girl can’t get herself something for Valentine’s Day; we should love ourselves as well – shouldn’t we? And let’s be honest, boyfriends like lingerie but I believe that only YOU can choose one that fits perfectly AND makes you feel sexy.
I WANNA by Olivia Löwenpapst
Olivia Löwenpapst – the Austrian designer behind the label I WANNA focusing on petite bralettes – creates hidden accessories for women. I was a bit sceptical when I saw those tiny pieces of material. The quality is great, but I am used to more push up. Yet, these pieces turned me into a fan and made me enjoy the comfort. I believe comfort is one of the key issues we should consider when buying lingerie and Olivias bralettes fulfil that point to the fullest. They have a clean look to them and it doesn’t matter if you see those pieces peak out on the sides of your shirt (on the opposite it adds to the outfit!).
Sometimes push ups are a good choice! But why not mix our lingerie up and add some soft bralettes?
Whenever I am at home for too long I start feeling the urge to travel, to get away – even if it’s only a two-day road trip over the weekend. Point is – it has to be an overnight-away-from-home-stay and to a place I haven’t been before. If it’s not too far from home I need to have the possibility to wander around and enjoy some scenery or natural beauty, which let’s me think and relax. If I go to a city, I need a comfy cafe or restaurant to have a great brunch and discover some creative vibes – I love to find those hidden independent places, where young fashion designers create & sell their collections!
Online shop for Austrian fashion design
I know – most of us don’t have the time to go road-tripping or prefer staying at home with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book. But where can you find those little independent shops? If you don’t want to spend too much time on looking for those places or don’t want to visit one small shop after the other I have the solution for you! Visit lieblingsbrand.at, an online shop for Austrian fashion design! On that website you can buy directly from each designer and don’t have to move one inch. It will be delivered to your home if you are in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. It is a new project that has a lot of potential in my eyes. There are 70 designers online already, and more are joining.
I am more of a try-it-on person, therefore I use lieblingsbrand.at as a platform to inspire my wardrobe or to find new designers, who I can visit in their shops. I also like using it for research before my trips or for what it actually is: an online shopping platform for Austrian fashion design (if the showrooms are too far to travel to).
I want to show you three coats below, that I would love to wear! Not sure how it’s in your country, but here in Vienna it is freezing and I would rather keep warm in a stylish jacket from an independent designer…
